San Luis Potosí

The incredible thing about traveling to places you have always wanted to go is discovering that there is even more there for you than you thought.

After thinking about it for a few months, I decided to go solo to one of the destinations in Mexico that has attracted me the most: San Luis Potosí.

I wanted to have maximum control of my activities and time, which is why I decided to rent a car. The idea of being the one who calls the shots on my trip excited me even more than the trip itself because I knew that I would face challenges…the first one being how to plan the trip. I had to consider not only the route and the places I wanted to see, but also how to properly manage my time to make the most of it.

On the day of my trip, I went to the Enterprise Rent-A-Car branch where I received information about both the destination and all the COVID-19 cleaning protocols applied to the vehicle, which made me feel quite secure as I started my adventure.

San Luis Potosí is a destination that I have had in mind for years, and although I already knew some places that I wanted to see, I was surprised by the countless alternatives it offered to please many different tastes.

Walking through its streets meant walking through its history as well as enjoying its local food. Although at first glance it is a destination that shares a lot of similarities with the cities of the Bajío, it has amazing natural environments and a surreal feel wherever you go.

A case in point is Xilitla, a Pueblo Mágico which is part of the Huasteca Potosina, known for its stone sculptures and orchid-filled gardens. Xilitla is hidden in the middle of the tropical forest, a green poem bathed in waterfalls and protected by caves.

Taking advantage of the trip is to carry out essential activities, such as visiting the Edward James Museum and the Ex Convent of San Agustín, as well as having the famous organic coffee grown in the area with breakfast. It is also a place to enjoy a spiritual temazcal after spending a Sunday dancing in the traditional huapangueada.

Booking my car in advance helped me better manage my time and afforded me the opportunity of getting to every place I wanted go without waiting for anyone else, and doing it at my own pace.

Each travel experience is totally different because while on the road, we not only discover new destinations, but we also discover new things about ourselves. And definitely, after discovering San Luis Potosí, my love for Mexico has grown even greater.
