Travel guide in Los Cabos; Desert, beaches and lot of surfing

I have visited Los Cabos every summer to surf and compete since I was 14, even celebrating my 15th birthday in a surf competition there. I could not have asked for a better birthday than doing what I like best.

From the first time I visited this destination, I fell in love with the blue water of its beaches, its waves, biodiversity, and the contrast of the desert with the sea. Due to the pandemic, the annual Los Cabos Open of Surf competition was not held, however it did not stop me making my trip to this incredible place.

This trip had a totally different feel than the ones I had done previously, since I would have more time to explore new places and experience more adventures. Of course, health and safety being of paramount concern, I decided to rent a car with Enterprise Rent A Car Mexico, as it complies with all the safety measures necessary during the pandemic. I had never rented a car before, and was delighted to receive such excellent treatment from them, from the moment the car was picked up until it was returned, which gave me complete confidence throughout my trip.

I had the opportunity to spend two months in this destination, and without a doubt there was not a single day of boredom. There are thousands of activities to do! The food is delicious and there are nearby picturesque magical towns with a lot of history. You can also visit La Paz, which is only a 2 hour drive away.

For wave and surf lovers, or those who want to learn to surf, the Costa Azul beach in San José del Cabo offers waves for all levels, from beginner to advanced. It’s one of the things that I love so much about Los Cabos, because just a few steps from each other are four different surf spots.

Cerritos is another nearby beach where you can also surf. It’s in Pescadero, a town whose essence is surfing. You can also enjoy watching the surfers riding the waves while you partake in a delicious meal on the beach.

Do you like fish and snorkeling? Then you must go to Chileno Bay. I was amazed at how many fish there are and how friendly they are. If you want a more tranquil visit and prefer to spend only one day at the beach you’re in luck! All the beaches are beautiful. The color of the sand and the water makes them unique.

Are you looking for adventure? Take the road to the East Cape and you will find many beaches where there are also waves to surf. Or you can find burritos that I personally love, because they are prepared with unique Los Cabos touches. My favorite area is here on the East Cape. lt is difficult to choose just one place, but as a surfer, I found the best waves here, and the contrast between the desert and the sea is something that fascinates me.

Alternatively, you can spend an afternoon walking the streets and eating in Todos Santos, which is a small but very picturesque town. Legend has it that Todos Santos is where the Eagles were inspired to write the famous song “Hotel California”.

We ended our trip by visiting La Paz which, as I mentioned before, is easily reached by car. We visited Balandra, which is considered one of the most beautiful beaches in Mexico. We swam with sea lions there.

There are many more activities that you can do in La Paz, like swim with the whale sharks or tour Espiritu Santo Island, and I am eagerly waiting my return to Baja California Sur, without a doubt, a paradisiacal destination and one of my favorite places in Mexico.
